1) What is the typical process involved in making my webvideo?
Firstly, it’s worth mentioning that the process is really easy and lots of fun. You
don’t have to do much at all, we do practically everything for you. Here’s a run-down
of the process that’s typically involved for most of the gold-standard projects we
1.) We talk to you and ask you questions about what kind of a film (or films) might
help your business achieve its goals. This initial consultancy process is free.
2.) Then we’ll drop by (typically no more than a few days later) with a quote for
the work that breaks down what our hourly rate is and how many hours will be involved.
The quote will also break down exactly what is involved, and what it is you’re getting
for your money!
3.) Once you tell us that you’re happy with the agreed price, we’ll pop in with our
first invoice, which is 50% of the cost of the production, usually payable within
30 days or by the day of filming, whichever is sooner. At this time, we’ll give you
a copy of the script to approve as well. This is a rough breakdown of the sort of
‘narrative’ the film will take and what sort of messages we’ll get across, based
on what you’ve told us you’d like to see in the film. At this point, we also arrange
a time for the filming, whether that’s for a couple of hours all at once, or a few
shorter sessions – whatever suits you.
4.) Then we’ll turn up and do the filming. We work quickly and efficiently and will
work around you. We’re very discreet and won’t disrupt your usual business activities
in the slightest.
5.) Once we’re done with filming, it’s time to edit the video. Most of our clients
want their film to be embedded on their site and hosted on YouTube, so in this example,
that’s what we’ll use (but see here for more hosting options, and here for other
things you can do with your video). Again, we work quickly and as soon as we’re done,
we will send you a private YouTube link where you can see the completed film. If
you want any minor revisions, we’ll gladly make those changes.
6.) As soon as you’re happy with the film, then we’ll send you the embedding code
for you to put the video on your site (a very easy process -click here to see just
how easy it is), as well as the invoice for the final 50% of the payment.
At Gold Pictures, the embedding code that we supply from YouTube is much better than
the normal code that you’d get from that site. Our embedding code means the video
player will be branded in the colours of your business and website, making it feel
like it really belongs there. We can also set the video to auto-play whenever anyone
comes across it on your website, etc.
Upon delivery of that final invoice, we’ll also supply you with a copy of the video
on DVD at no extra charge that will play the film in any DVD player. Also, if you
put the disc in a DVD drive on a computer, there’s a copy protection-free copy of
the video as an MP4 video file, so you can upload the video wherever you like beyond
YouTube: Viddler, Yell.com, BT’s commercial directory site, your businesses Facebook
3) How much work will I have to do in order to make this film? Will my business be
disrupted in any way?
While some clients want control of every minutiae of the filmmaking process, in our
experience, most people don’t have the time or inclination to do that, and are happy
to leave all that to us. We will spend a little bit of time with you in the initial
consultancy process discussing what you’d like to get out of the film, but that’s
about all there is to it on your end! Don’t worry, we’re not going to suddenly throw
a lot of extra work your way!
When we come in to film, we’ll work very quickly and be very discreet. There’s certainly
no need to close your business down while we’re there or anything like that! We’ll
work around you and your customers, and we’ll be in and out in no time. You’ll barely
even notice us – I promise!
4) How long does it take to make a film with Gold Pictures?
A typical promotional webvideo film project we make for a client takes about 20 hours.
As such, we can do the whole thing within a week. If you want us to come back at
a later date and do some specific filming for your project, such as a customer testimonial
from a client who’s only available at a certain time, or whenever your new showroom
is ready, etc., then that’s absolutely fine. Some projects take over a month depending
on what the client wants, but it’s really up to you. We work at your pace. However
I can guarantee that you’ll never be waiting for us!
5) Do you do ‘bronze’ or ‘silver’ packages? What if my budget doesn’t extend to a
Gold Pictures only produce ‘Gold Standard’ video projects. We refuse to deliberately
reduce the quality of a video project in order to flog you a cheap product. However,
there are plenty of gold-standard videos that can suit every budget. For example,
some clients get films made by us that only use still images and require no actual
filming or intensive pre-production. These frequently can be made for as little as
£300-£400. Others want high-end multiple films in one project that cost many thousands.
So we can make a high-quality film that really suits every financial circumstance.
Technically yes, as long as we can secure the rights to use it. A commercial song
(like say, something in the charts) can cost tens of thousands of pounds or more
in order to be used in a commercial webvideo – and that’s assuming the record label
will allow it in the first place. We can also play commercial library music on your
project, but that can incur yearly costs as well for often between £150-£400. Instead,
we almost always use high-quality royalty-free music that’s appropriate for your
film and costs you nothing.
7) Can I make changes to the video? What would that cost me?
As long as it’s within reason and doesn’t involve extra shooting, and as long as
it’s not a major re-edit and it’s not a fundamental change to the film we have agreed
to make for you, we can usually make basic changes for no extra charge, as long as
it’s before we have given you the last invoice. But that doesn’t mean any other changes
would be expensive. Anything extra that constitutes a significant change would be
charged at just our standard low hourly rate.
8) What if I want you to do some additional filming?
Again, that’s absolutely fine, we’ll work out how much extra filming and editing
time would be required, and will charge you at our hourly rate. That way it’s simple
and cost-effective for you, and you know what you’ll be paying before we do anything.
9) What about copyright – who owns the film that Gold Pictures makes for my business?
We own the film with you, on a 50/50 basis. Our clients love this arrangement for
a host of reasons. For example, this means that you can use this film however you
like and upload it wherever you can. We might use bits of it as examples to other
clients, but the film is also yours, so you can use it to promote your business in
any way you like. The possibilities are endless -see here for more!
10) How do I get my video on my website? What hosting options are there?
Most of our clients just get us to upload the video on YouTube, and then supply them
with the embedding code. Our embedding code is totally bespoke. Unlike normal YouTube
videos that are embedded on websites, the embedding code that we supply you is very
unique. It won’t really look like a YouTube video at all! We’ll have the YouTube
player coloured to look exactly like the colours and branding of your business and
website, so the video really looks like it belongs there, as part of your site. And
we can even add a bit of code in the embedding line that make the video ‘auto play’
whenever anyone comes across it on your site, thus ensuring that most people who
go on your site will watch it.
The embedding code is nothing to worry about. It’s basically a line of code – a line
of gobbledygook if you will – that you (or your website designer) need to copy and
paste into the relevant part of the right page of your website. And that’s it! In
our experience almost no web designers charge to do this for you – after all, it’s
normally just 30 seconds work for them.
A YouTube video has some other great bonuses too. For example it can appear as an
entry in its own right in the search engines of Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc., which
could raise the profile of your business dramatically.
But if you really don’t want a YouTube video, or want more options for your websites
video, remember that we supply you with a copy of the video as a file to do with
as you please. Also we can encode it into a bespoke flash video and even host it
for you if you want. We have great rates on super-fast hosting that we supply from
some of the most powerful web servers on earth! Drop us an email if you have any
questions about either hosting or delivery of your web video.
11) What else can I do with my video, aside from embedding it onto my website?
Because we will always supply you with a digital version of the video as a copy protection-free
file, and because you own the rights to the film, you can do loads of great things
with the video to expand the opportunities people will see it.
The supplied DVD copy can be played on any standard DVD player, so maybe you could
play it at your stall during a trade expo, or even have it playing in your place
The video file could be included on a PowerPoint or Keynote presentation. You can
upload the video file to Yell.com, (customers who have a video on Yell.com are about
4 times more likely to get a customer enquiry than a competitor who doesn’t), or
your businesses LinkedIn/Facebook pages, Viddler, BT’s online business directory
– your video can be practically wherever your business goes, and will make you stand
out of the crowd!
12) What separates Gold Pictures from the other corporate/promotional video businesses?
We’re called Gold Pictures because every film (or ‘motion picture’ if you like the
traditional term) we produce is of a gold standard. Bespoke and lovingly produced
for your unique needs. We’re a multi-award winning film company and pride ourselves
on making the very best films for businesses.
Most of our competition in the webvideo market do films for fixed rates, and produce
basic ‘template’ films. While some of these films are fine, they often fail to capture
the uniqueness of your business.
At Gold Pictures, we want to know about you – what is it about your business that
makes you so special? We ask the right questions to help us produce a film that REALLY
lets your clients know how special you are. That’s why we produce a bespoke quote
for each client, and the other things we provide (such as the video file and copy
on DVD) that are usually considered costly ‘extras’ by most of our competitors are
included with us at no extra charge.
We also think the video we make is about you, not us. You won’t see our logos or
branding on the videos. If someone likes your film and asks you who made it, we hope
that your experience with us was satisfying and worthwhile enough to tell them. We
don’t force ourselves on you. And so you won’t see our branding or website, etc.
on your video.
